Area Day Dinner at Andrea and Michael's House

Area Day was a lot of fun. From learning about U2's music to drumming with Christian to the excellent reading during the service, the senior youth were involved. Homemade pizza was great at our house. The Jacob Moon concert was a lot of fun. And the sleepover was full of good times, with pajama wearing in church the next morning. A good time had by all. -Michael

Junior Youth Games

I believe that the final score was 151 to 151. A miraculous tie between team 1 and team 2!

To you, the lovely senior youth

Senior Youth at Ida,
Three things:
1) Please be advised that infinity Groups (Youth Social Justice Night) is happening this Sunday evening at the Third Space from 5:30 to 8:00. Please attend. There will be dinner served at 5:30, some ridiculous games as opposed to immediate seriousness, and then into the groups. I will be contributing a presentation on the 0.7% issue in that time.
2) Confirmation classes will begin Tuesday evening after the family dinner. Again, I would like you all to attend the classes and then you will have an opportunity at the end to decide whether or not you want to do confirmation. It's an important decision which you can make over the months of classes, not between now and Tuesday.
3) The Senior Youth retreat is still on for the end of the month and I would like an answer back from each of you by Tuesday where I want to collect the forms from you with the $60. It is from January 30 (Friday) to February 1 (Sunday). I've already had a few yes's but I need to hear back from each of you and have the form and money from you on Tuesday.

The Dream Youth Event

On Sunday October 19th, 2008, from 5:30 to 8:00 PM, there will be an epic youth event entitled, The Dream Youth Event, held at the Third Space Church in Peterborough.

The purpose: To inform, inspire, and engage Peterborough youth in social justice activities.
Let's define these things for you:

social justice: The belief that every individual and group is entitled to fair and equal rights and participation in social, educational, and economic opportunities. The agenda is to increase understanding of oppression and inequality and taking action to overcome them.

engage: Carry out or participate in an activity; be involved in

The format will be pretty simple, giving you, the youth, a chance to tell us, your leaders, the things that you care about, that strike you as unfair. We will facilitate discussion and encourage you to think about certain things going on in Peterborough. We will then break up into smaller groups with similar concern and discuss how to be informed and given opportunity in this direction.

There will be some form of dinner between 5:30 and 6:00 and the main event from 6:00 to 8:00. Please start thinking about the world around you, what injustice do you see that makes you upset? Think. Write those things down. The Third Space Church is located at the corner of Park and Wolfe in Peterborough. Go to this link for a map.

Christian Harvey of St. John's Anglican Church in Peterborough, Carlo Raponi from the Bridge Youth Centre, Becky Rodin from Auburn Bible Chapel and myself, Michael VanDerHerberg from St. John's Ida are organizing the event. And we expect you to be there.
